I'm melting....

I'm british and I'm going to complain about the weather ;o)....blimey it's hot!! See that there thermostat...23 degrees and it's only just past 8am. I will be mostly melting today :o).


I forgot to show you the Fathers Day card I made for my Dad...just a slight variation on the birthday card tweet tweet as he likes birds. No idea if he actually liked it (or even opened it) as he's still grieving so doesn't really 'do' occasions.


We nipped to the beach on Saturday and saw some planes for the Armed Forces Day, but most importantly we found masses of these.......

....sea glass pieces. I love sea glass and we're usually lucky if we find 5 or 6 pieces, so to find this much (and it doesn't include JJ's haul) is just amazing. My sea glass jar is nearly full :o).

We did go to the country fair too....it was soooo hot though with hardly any shade anywhere so we were all quite grumpy when we got home.

Thought I'd better say hello :o)

Hope everyone is ok and enjoying the brief spells of sunshine. Hubby and I were at a wedding on Monday, hence the card above. It was lovely to be out doing something different, but not much else exciting happening this week. We all have colds and the associated rubbish that comes with that so I have spent the last 3 days sorting through all the books in the living room and putting some aside for the home ed group book swap we shall be having for world book day at the beginning of march. You wouldn't think that took so much energy but it has done! Never mind, one more lot of sorting stuff done now :o). I did manage to make this necklace Wednesday evening. Wish I'd had some more larger beads so it was alternated all the way along, but I love it anyway.

I'm so excited as I'm going to my first festival (other than VWs) later in the year. I'll have to take the kids and all the camping stuff on the train as hubby is working but I'm so, so looking forward to it. Anyone else fancy Barefoot?

Off to collapse on the sofa now with a cuppa, the littliest poorly boy and the film Up.

Distracted ;o)

We went to get our small!!! tree yesterday so we all got slightly distracted with the decorating. And as I seem to have my sorting out stuff head on, I bagged up a few of our old christmas decorations ready to take to the charity shop tomorrow.

Not as many piccies to show you because of previously mentioned distraction but heres another new card for the shop and then 2 more tubs made out of the felted blanket that I got on the bootsale. Not sure what the deeper one is for but the other is for our remotes.

The snow has brought an amazing amount of birds to the garden, from the starlings to the wren, but last week we had 12 (yes 12!!) yellow hammers eating the chickens grain in the back garden and then yesterday we had 8 wax wings in our front garden eating some berries. Unfortunately there are no piccies as the yellow hammers were too far away for my old camera to get a descent picture and then I was too busy excitedly squealing and looking through our bird book to get one of the wax wings before they flew off. If I'd have thought about it at the time I should have taken a picture first, and then had a look through the book...nevermind :o).

Look what must have got disturbed while pinching nuts from our nut basket - the faeries left they wares by the door. We now have to make a door mat and a shopping bag for them as they can only carry 2 nuts in their basket ;o).

Just a couple of small things to add to my scarily unfinished list then :o).

Loads to show you

It doesn't seem like it's been over a week since my last visit! Anyway, I've got loads to show you so here goes. We going to the Green Parent meet up this weekend and have to travel by train so I thought JJ could do with a small bag. It's made like my purple shoulder bag and lined with denim.

I've had another tattoo - the cat was already there, but I've had it re-freshed and all the flowers and bits added. I completely forgot to take a picture before hand!


JJ wanted a new scarf - he picked yellow and orange so I crocheted the two together so it was quicker, then added the fringe onto the ends.

One of the Yule list - a reversible apron for my nephew.

Ten (plus two for me) san pro pockets and inners.

Chamomile soap ready in a few days so I'll hopefully get that in the shop later today. I've got loads to do - it's my Dad's birthday today so I'm making him a cake as he doesn't really do birthdays anymore so I thought this was a good compromise, we shall see. I've also got to get my MILs birthday present ready for Friday as I won't be here - I'm making her a pamper hamper as she's asked for something else for Christmas.

Life is good

I know I've mentioned the new home ed group before, but I can't quite believe how much difference it has made to the way I feel. I am so much more calmer, much less shouty mum is here, even though my period is overdue I've only had a couple of wild/crazy/awful moments where I've lost the plot. The boys love it too (which I suppose is the main reason for going ;o) ). Definitely the right decision to pluck up the courage to go - just need to pluck up the courage to send my form for the Green Parent weekend in November.

Do you like my new house up there? My teeny tiny house made for me by my biggest boy Aaron :o).

And here's one of the birthday cards that needs making for the October birthdays - this one is for my neice who is 3 today. I've had an urge for knitting these last couple of days so I got some needles out last night and started a scarf for JJ, although this morning he told me he wants one that matches my scarf not a blue one! This will just have to be for someone else then :o). I'll show you piccies some other time.

Long Day

Eldest was home at 8.30 last night, complete with re-broken nose and splint which he has to wear for a week. It was a long day. Managed to finish the bowl (which only needed the ends threading in), the bag and the card. I also contacted the chemist as I still hadn't heard anything and he got back to me. Apparently Rose essential oil is restricted to 2g per kilo due to methyleugenol being present. I went and did a little investigating as I didn't know what it was and found that it is a known human carcinogen. Link here for those interested. Not really sure what to do now. It is naturally occuring and there are 'safe' limits according to the chemists but.......! I could use rose geranium instead. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts on this.

Need a kick up the backside!

I don't know if it's a combination of the looonngggg winter or having the builders in since the beginning of January, but I've been doing bugger all these past few weeks. It still feels like I haven't stopped but I think that's just my brain whirring all the time with things that need doing, orders I should be doing, blah, blah, blah. I know I've been spending far too much time on the computer, though I don't really know what I've been doing as it's been 10 whole days since I posted on here! The things I have to show you (except for the card above) have all been made by talented mama's elsewhere. The card was for my nephew's birthday - the picture is one he loved and posted up on facebook so I printed it off, after resizing it, then made the card. I never got round to making the anniversary card, shame on me.


Now to the gifts we've received for the season swap on the Green Parent Forum. We have a pom pom chick, a daffodil, a rabbit and a hen. Thank you so much Daisypip, they are just beautiful.

This is a daffodil bud baby kit that I bought from Myriad. I was a little sceptical when I recieved it but it has come together beautifully.

These are the season swap gifts we received from Liz, as mentioned in the previous post. We've filled the bowl with our different eggs.

And just look at these gifts! Arn't they just gorgeous?! They were made by the most amazing crafting mama - go take a look at her blog. Dawn very kindly sent these as a surprise for me - my very own needle felted Mother Earth and her root children. Just gorgeous. Thank you so much xxxx.

So here is our season/nature table this year. We also have a vase with daffodils and forsythia in it but I don't put it on here in case the cats decide they are going to sit there! You'll have to excuse the dust - unfortunately the builders only clean the work area, not the rest of the house that likes to share plaster dust!!!!

Normality!?!

Hubby had his back op on Thursday for a prolapsed disc, he is home now, so I feel like I can finally look forward to Christmas. The brief moments of excitement in the previous few weeks have been short-lived because of the various things that have happened, but now hopefully we can expect some normality (well normal for our house anyway). The first picture is the card and pressie for my nephew. Hard to believe he's a year old!! The other picture is the Twilleys Freedom wool I ordered for the hats I'm making for my Hubby and my Dad - ok, I don't need that much wool to make two hats but it looked so gorgeous I couldn't decide on a colour!! I really do need to finish the cards and get them posted then start on the stockings for my nieces. Hope everyone else is having fun.

Should really be doing the housework

I think the title just about sums up how I feel at the minute! It was Grandad's funeral yesterday, and although it went as well as these things can go, I don't think it hit me until today. Can't really explain how I feel, other than I've spent the afternoon crafting and watching a Christmas film just because I couldn't be bothered to do anything else! Above is the card I made for my Mum's partner who has just moved from 'their' house to a new house. A step forward hopefully.

These are the start of the felt paper chain that I was inspired to make because of the lovely Sarah over at paper-and-string. Can't decide whether to do them in Christmas colours and save them just for Christmas or whether to do them multi-coloured so we can have them up for birthdays as well.

Now this is a giant re-purposed tin that had a cake in it!! Can't decide whether to put it in the shop or use it here. Too many decisions to make.

Anyway, at the minute I have marrow and apple chutney on the stove, and some more strips to make for the chains.

Getting back into it.

Today I also harvested the rosemary from the garden. I didn't get it done last year so the plant is looking rather straggly. Anyway, tomorrow's post (hopefully) will be full of rosemary.

I've managed to do a little crafting over the last few days. The funeral was yesterday which went quite well considering the circumstances. A packed Church and a very big VW convoy just showed the amount love for Webbo. We will miss you.
